This week I had the pleasure of enjoying some DAMN good BBQ in STURBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS!
Below is a picture of BT himself whom is an accomplished chef that adapted a fond love of southern style bbq about 5 yrs ago. He built a mobile BBQ shack and made a name for himself at the local Flea Market, and now owns a place of his own for about a year now.
I tasted :
1. St. Louis ribs (dry rub, meaty and flavorful. I give them a 7.5)
2. Brisket (authentic and very juicy. Not trimmed in a Texas style, so I deduct points there. ![]()
3. Boston Baked Black Beans (Yankee style, kinda dry, not necessarily for me. 5)
4. Cole Slaw (not sure of BT’s recipe, but I loved it. Unique!!! 9)
5. Mac n Cheese (made to order. surprisingly good! ![]()
3 different sauces (Good, with lots of variety from sweet, to savory to spicy. I would like to see one thicker sauce though. 7)
The place is small and cozy. The place used to be an ice cream shop. You sit right in the kitchen and get to know and watch the Pitmaster at work. He uses top of the line equipment which is very impressive and kept very clean from what I can tell.
Ill have you know, that my purpose for having lunch at BT’s was to wright about how he has embarrassed us all by calling this place a BBQ joint. I must say, he made me proud and I think he can really satisfy the local taste buds with his attention to detail, and the willingness to let it all hang out by being creative and unique in his approach.
My overall take on this place is that he made the New Englanders proud. I have a friend from CT and his take on BBQ is, “why would you pay someone good money to burn your meat”? I have since transformed him and he has a distinct respect for what we do.
NO, Massachusetts does NOT have the best BBQ in the nation but I would certainly go back to this place again!
Someone scream, Hottie Hawgs!!
Kyle
